Learn – Improve – Race

Learn to SUP

If you are 18 or over, and no matter what fitness level, our SUP School can teach you to have fun and stay safe on a Stand Up Paddle board (SUP)

Improve

If you want to take it to the next level, we run Race SUP training.
It’s also a great way to get fit

Race

When you are ready to race, we run SUP Races that suit everyone from first timers all the way up to national level.
We are Scotland’s only SUP Race Club and are the place to train

Location

Loch SUP,
Castle Semple Visitor Centre and Country Park,
Lochlip Road,
Lochwinnoch,
Renfrewshire,
PA12 4EA

See the:  Visitor Centre directions page

Follow the red line on the image.

This takes you from the car park to the Grass Triangle where we will meet you.

We provide the Paddle Board, Wetsuit, Leash, Paddle and Buoyancy Aid You need to bring trainers or soft shoes that can get wet, swimsuit for under the wetsuit, towel and dry clothes to change into afterwards

Lessons take around two hours. Most of this will be on the water, after a brief on land familiarisation with kit and safety procedures. Please turn up at least 15 minutes early to get your wetsuit on

We will run session in winds up to 8mph with slightly higher gusts. The direction of the wind also has an impact on postponing sessions.

Rain will not usually stop a session but cold weather or windchill caused by wind, rain and cold air may well postpone sessions.

Lightning will get us off the water quickly. We run a 30 seconds / 30 minutes Lightning Policy.

If you see Lightning, and hear thumder within 30 seconds, then it is within 6 miles (10km). In that case we get off the water and stay off until 30 mins after the last sound of Thunder

Most of the Loch is around 4 feet deep and the average adult can stand up in it with their head above water. There are a couple of slightly deeper areas, but we do not go near them in a beginner session.

Around 20% of the session will be done in front of the visitor centre that has excellent paths and is a great venue for family to watch and take pictures. There is also a cafe for them to retreat to whilst we travel up the Loch a little bit as your skills grow.

  • As we do most of our paddling on Scottish Loch’s and live in Lochwinnoch it seemed like a good fit.
  • The conversation basically started and ended with “What name suggests both Lochs and SUP…”

SUP Race highlights and results

So the race on Saturday 25th May was great, and a huge thanks to everyone who came along.

It was great to see Junior racers and hopefully we will have a thriving junior race scene in Scotland soon.
